PARS welcomes new members @ Easter CROCK 2007

PARS is thrilled to welcome two new associate members (status NRY = No Rocket Yet) for 2007.

Will Tomsett and Andrew Guest joined Oliver and Kes down at CROCK (Rye) for the annual Easter 2007 flying event. The weather was perfect. Clear skies and winds ranging from 1mph to 5 mph.

We tried out a couple of new pieces of equipment - a Wind Meter, and Loc8tor - a device for finding a rocket on the ground. And PARS achieved a new record at the event.

WOWROC2's onboard electronics recorded a best ever PARS height record of 1987 Feet. Fantastic!

Here we are, unpacking all of the equipment.

Our new Loc8tor. The advantage of Loc8tor is that the homing devices (named by PARS as "Bill" and "Bob") are tiny, and can therefore even fit inside smaller model rockets.

Andrew and Oliver preparing Stratosphere - sporting new colour scheme - for its first D-launch of the day.

Here is Kes preparing Stratosphere for an E-Launch!

The rocket is known to fly HIGH on a D, so we didn't know what to expect on an E. It was an amazing flight.

We could hardly see the rocket at Apogee. But the light wind conditions meant that the rocket could easily be recovered just a few hundred feet from the launch site.

New associate member, Will Tomsett, preparing for his first launch.

Exhausted by all the exciement, the new PARS members sit down on a spot of lunch.

But PARS veterans Kes and Oliver keep on going, and prepare PRIDE for launch.

PRIDE caught at the moment of launch. A wonderful flight for Kes. Kes has announced that he will be trying for Level 1 next year. That will mean building his Level 1 rocket over Winter. We recommend an early start, around November.

Will Tomsett shows off Oliver's Blue Samurai
against the perfect clear blue skies of the
wonderful CROCK launch site.

The team with PARS ONE - ready for launch.

PARS ONE uses a cluster of 4x E-class motors,
i.e. G equivalent. PARS ONE is always impressive,
due to the flame and smoke from its four motors.

Recovery of PARS ONE is a success.

The team with WOWROC2 - Oliver's Level 1 and Level 2
class rocket - today flying on an I205 3-Grain HPR motor.

Canon 400D Image Stabilized Lens 135MM. The flight
was important for PARS, achieving a best ever record
of 1987 feet.

the day, Oliver's Blue Samurai.

And successful recovery. All in all, a wonderful event.
All flights successful. No rockets damaged. No rockets
lost to the Crop Gods.

News of Next Events: Our challenge is to get WOWROC2
up on a 4-Grain motor. And of course, the test flight
of Mercury 1 draws near. And will Dan put some time
in to get his Level 1 rocket built? That's the key question
on everyone's lips.
