By attending a PARS meeting, you are automatically enrolled as an associate member. But to be a real member you need a rocket. Realizing this, Kes Daood went straight over to the Deep Sky Rocket Shop and bought himself a brand new Estes Ionizer. The Ionizer is a good starter kit, just like Code Red, because it comes with its own launch pad and controller. This means Kes can launch his rocket without coming to PARS meetings. (His Dad will make sure he obeys all the safety rules)
As the proud owner of the Ionizer, he successfully launched and recovered his rocket at an ad-hoc meeting of PARS on June 19th 2004.
The boys prepare the Ionizer for take-off (Kes is on the left, his brother, Seth, in the middle, Oliver his friend and PARS founder, on the right)
Ionizer's maiden flight, June 19th, 2004 The rocket easily reached an impressive 700 feet on an C6-5 motor.
Disaster nearly strikes - Ionizer lands only inches away from trees as the photograph shows |
