Kes Daood joins PARS with Ionizer, June 2004

Kes has a new rocket, an Estes Ionizer Starter Pack

Even these small rockets can easily reach 700 feet
on a powerful C6-5 motor

Kes' Dad, Jim, saves the day by valiantly claiming
about 30 feet up a tree to retrieve the Ionizer

On its 3rd launch, Ionizer is blown by an unexpected
gust of wind into a tree several hundred yards up field.
Kes was sure his Dad could reach the rocket and told
PARS members of how his Dad, Jim, had been an
ace tree climber as a boy. Risking life and limb, Jim
was sure he could recover the rocket. Although not
clear from this picture, Jim must have claimed nearly
30 feet to reach the rocket, which was recovered by
shaking branches and using a stick to prod it free.

Ionizer lives to fly another day!

By attending a PARS meeting, you are automatically enrolled as an associate member. But to be a real member you need a rocket. Realizing this, Kes Daood went straight over to the Deep Sky Rocket Shop and bought himself a brand new Estes Ionizer.

The Ionizer is a good starter kit, just like Code Red, because it comes with its own launch pad and controller. This means Kes can launch his rocket without coming to PARS meetings. (His Dad will make sure he obeys all the safety rules)

As the proud owner of the Ionizer, he successfully launched and recovered his rocket at an ad-hoc meeting of PARS on June 19th 2004.

The rocket easily reached an impressive 700 feet on an C6-5 motor.

Disaster nearly strikes - Ionizer lands only inches away from trees as the photograph shows
