Lego Men At Apogee (LMAP) Project

Announcing the PARS LMAP Project

PARS is conducting an experiment. Entitled "Lego Men At Apogee", or LMAP for short, the aim of the project is to place toy figures at Apogee and return them safely to the ground. Any men lost are refered to as "The Lost Ones of LMAP"

The project was inspired by the successful launch by PARS members during a CROCK event. A single Lego Man (see right) travelled aboard Kes Daood's Ionizer Rocket.

We estimate the Lego Man reached 800 feet. The figure was ejected at apogee, and returned to the ground safely by its own parachute, separate to the main rocket parachute.

The small amount of wind carried the Lego man, and his parachute, several hundred yards away from the launch site.

PARS announces a new competition

The objective of LMAP is to get a Lego Man as high as possible, and to recover the figure successfully. Return may be by any means, including

* Parachute
* Streamer
* Glider
* Free fall

Altitude verification is by means of electronic altimeter. Launches without an altimeter are permitted, and estimates of alittude achieved will be permitted.

Members whose rockets cannot safely carry an altimeter, but who want to use an altimeter, should band together as a team in the competition.

Additional points are awarded for the number of Lego men simultaneously ejected from the rocket

Carrying a Bleeper is optional. A bleeper may help recover the man, and add weight, bringing the man down more vertically. However, if you are prepared to lose the Lego Man (as a Lost One), then feel free to omit the bleeper.

Visiblity aids can be added - e.g. tin foil, streamers, etc.

Members are free to use their creativity in the LMAP project

For example, if launching more than one man, they could fly down separately, or be connected in some way.
