PARS TWO - CROCK June 2007

This was an important event, for it was the first time
we had used a 4-Grain Pro38 I-285 motor. This is the
largest motor PARS has used. If PARS TWO flew
well on this motor, it was ready for a 5-Grain J, and
the Level 2 attempt. The rocket is optimized for 5
and 6 Grain 38mm motors.

Watch videos of the preparation and launch
of PARS TWO:

The flight was perfect, reaching the predicted height
of approximately 1800 feet on Pro38 4-Grain I286.
Dual recovery worked perfectly.

The main parachute opened at 300 feet, which was
not quite long enough to be totally reliable. We will
rese the alitmeter for 500 feet on the next flight.

The next time PARS TWO flies, it will be for a
Level 2 Certification. On a 5-Grain motor, the rocket
is predicted to reach over 2500 feet.

We are dedicating this page of our web site to PARS TWO, a 4 inch club rocket, built to allow members to Certify to UKRA Level Two. (once they have built, launched and recovered a Level 1 rocket of their own)

PARS' Oliver Neil Smith and Daniel Goldsmith attended the CROCK meeting, June 2007, for the first flight of PARS TWO.

PARS TWO took a the winter of 2006 and the early spring of 2007 to build, and we had been eagerly awaiting its first flight.

Dan Goldsmith, who is not yet a Level 1, prepared the flight, overseen by Oliver, Level 1 and myself, Howard Smith.

Out in the wide fields of the Walland Marsh site, PARS TWO does not look so big. Yet it is 4 inches in diameter, is over 6 and a half feet long and weighs in at about 8 pounds on the pad. It is designed for dual recovery.

Here is the team, doing final checks of the electronics systems.
